PATRICIA LYNCH
We are delighted to have a new collection of egg tempura paintings in the gallery by Patricia Lynch.
Traditionally used in icon painting, egg tempura is a complex medium that requires lengthy surface preparation, and time consuming application of thin glazes of paint. Patricia approaches this traditional technique in a more contemporary fashion, creating sensitive, semi-abstract imagery which is brought to life with vivid, translucent colours.
She works into the surface of the painting, scraping away areas to reveal the layers behind. This creates depth and texture, accentuated with gold leaf, which contrasts with the smooth, lustrous surface of the medium.
Grace Girvan’s jewellery is inspired by natural objects found on the beach near her home in Scotland. By combining the soft colours of pebbles and driftwood with silver and enamel she creates distinctive, understated pieces of jewellery.
Barbara Jackson’s printmaking explores light and movement. Capturing everyday scenes, she creates cinematic snippets of life through her etchings and aquatints. Soft, muted colours add a painterly feel and an ambience suggestive of the mid 19th century.
